THE JULIAN CENTRE

The Julian Centre next to the Shrine is run by The Friends of Julian of Norwich. It is open from 10.30 until 3.30 on weekdays and extends a warm welcome to all pilgrims and visitors. The Centre houses a small lending library, but most importantly there is a bookshop in the Centre which aims to stock all current editions of The Revelations of Divine Love, including an edition of the text in medieval English. The Centre also tries to have available all books currently in print about Julian, including many that are not readily available elsewhere, and a selection of books on spirituality. Icons, rosaries, devotional articles and cards are also available. A book and card list can be sent on request. The Julian Reference Library at the Centre aims to carry everything written about Julian in any language, including unpublished doctoral theses.

The aim of The Friends of Julian of Norwich is to continue her work of prayer throughout the world; to encourage interest in her Revelations of Divine Love; and to help the work of the Julian Shrine by prayer, and by financial support.

Members of The Friends live all over the world, and are asked to join their prayers with those offered at the Shrine. The Friends are prayed for at Mass on Friday afternoons when intercession requests posted on the board in the church during that week are also offered.

JULIAN FESTIVAL

Every year in May there is a Julian Festival, a celebration day organised jointly by the Shrine and the Friends of Julian of Norwich. This takes place on the second Saturday in May (the Julian Commemoration Day in the Church of England Calendar is May 8th). The annual Julian Lecture begins the day at 11.00 am, an event which has brought many distinguished speakers to Norwich including John Skinner who has recently produced a new translation of The Revelations of Divine Love, and the Carmelite nun Sister Elizabeth Obbard. Details of the lectures and any other special events are sent to The Friends in The Julian Newsletter published twice a year. There is a Sung Mass at 12.00 noon, followed by a (bring your own) picnic lunch. The afternoon includes the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Julian of Norwich, a short presentation (we have had music contemporary with Julian, and excerpts from a Julian play) finishing with Vespers and Benediction
